The WALK
Trek Overview
Strides 4 Survival is a long-distance, self-supported walking journey led by Phil Briggs to raise awareness of HPV-related cancers, encourage vaccination awareness and uptake, and support charities that helped Phil through his cancer treatment and recovery.

Phil will walk day after day, carrying all essential kit and equipment, navigating the route independently, and staying in a mix of wild camping, campsites and local B&Bs. Although Phil intends to walk 30km (18.6m) per day, the journey is relatively slow and grounded. It reflects the reality of recovery. Progress made step by step, with rest, resilience, and support along the way.

This is not a race. It is a statement of presence, endurance, and hope.

Why Phil Is Walking
HPV-related cancers are preventable, yet awareness remains low, and stigma remains high. Phil was diagnosed with HPV-related cancer and underwent extensive treatment. During and after treatment, he experienced first-hand the physical and emotional impact of cancer, as well as the vital role played by specialist charities, healthcare staff, and peer support.
Strides 4 Survival exists to:
-
Raise awareness of HPV-related cancers.
-
Encourage vaccination, particularly among young people.
-
Challenge stigma through open conversation.
-
Give back to the charities and services that supported Phil during treatment and recovery, including Macmillan Cancer Support and the Royal Marine Association.
This walk is both personal and collective. It honours survival, while advocating for prevention.

A Self-Supported JourneyPhil will complete the trek self-supported, carrying his own equipment and supplies. This includes:

-
Personal kit and camping gear
-
Food and navigation equipment
-
Medical and safety essentials

Overnight stops will alternate between:
-
Campsites
-
Wild camping
-
Local B&Bs
This approach reflects the spirit of the campaign. Independent, resilient, and grounded, while still connected to the people and places along the way.
